Goodwood House is the family seat of the Dukes of Richmond. Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond (1735-1806) took a leading part in American affairs in the House of Lords during the War of Independence. He was known as the ‘Radical Duke’ due to his sympathy for the colonists. It is theorized that the Sussex Declaration may have been at some time in his possession.
