The majority of the letters from Charles Sumner to Richard Cobden held at West Sussex Record Office are to be found in the letter book Cobden Mss 13 and individual letters have been catalogued to piece level. You can view a digitised version of each letter by clicking on the links below. Two further letters from Charles Sumner from September 1856 and April 1848 are to be found in Cobden Mss 17.
Cobden Mss 77 includes two original letters from John Bright to Catherine Cobden from 1865 which enclose extracts of letters he received from Charles Sumner, as well as copies of a newspaper cutting about trees named after Bright and Cobden and an extract of a letter from John Stuart Mill to Thomas Bayley Potter on the topic of England and America.
